2 Hospitalized after Major La Mesa Car Accident on 8 Freeway near 70th Street
La Mesa, California (March 26, 2020) – The CHP officials are investigating a major wrong-way collision that left two persons with critical injuries early Thursday morning in La Mesa, San Diego County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a head-on collision was reported on eastbound Interstate 8 Freeway near 70th Street a while after 12:00 a.m.
Authorities said an SUV and a red vehicle were involved in the accident. The SUV burst into flames following the impact. Officials said that the SUV was reportedly driving westbound on eastbound Interstate 8 in the Cajon area.
Major Head-On Crash Leads to Critical injuries in La Mesa
Firefighters along with medical personnel extricated the two drivers pinned inside their cars. The two patients were rushed to the hospital with critical injuries.
No other person was injured in the crash.
An investigation is underway.
