Kings County, California (August 5, 2019) – One person was killed in a crash involving a big rig on Sunday night near Hanford in Kings County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck took place shortly after 9:30 p.m. August 4, on Highway 198 near 7th Avenue.

CHP said a pickup traveling westbound on Highway 198 drifted into the eastbound lanes and collided with an oncoming big rig. The impact pushed the pickup into a telephone pole on the side of the highway.

The impact also caused both vehicles to catch fire.

The driver of the pickup was killed in the crash. The driver’s identity was not immediately released.

The driver of the big rig was unhurt.

The CHP is conducting an investigation into the incident.
