Gaviota, California (November 16, 2020) – Kelly Chadic, 50, of Lompoc, has been identified as the man who was hit and killed by a vehicle earlier this month along the Gaviota Coast in Santa Barbara County, police said.

The deadly pedestrian accident transpired shortly before 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, Highway 101 near El Capitan Ranch.

According to the authorities, Chadic was standing in the right-hand lane of northbound Highway 101 when a 2007 Toyota RAV4, driven by Jerry D. Hartmann, 60, of Solvang, struck him.

Hartmann reportedly swerved to avoid hitting Chadic, but the right corner of the vehicle struck him.

Chadic was then struck by a second vehicle and was thrown to the right shoulder, the officials said.

Sadly, Chadic was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hartmann, who was not intoxicated, remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.

The second driver fled the scene and is being sought by the police.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
