Joseph Carretero Killed in Car Accident near Devonshire Street and Reseda Boulevard in Northridge
Joseph Carretero ID’d as 1 of 2 Killed in Northridge Crash near Devonshire Street and Reseda Boulevard

Northridge, California (July 5, 2019) – Authorities have identified Joseph Carretero, 24, as one of the two people who were killed when a police pursuit ended in a multi-vehicle collision early Friday morning in Northridge.
The deadly accident happened around 1:08 a.m. near Devonshire Street and Reseda Boulevard.
According to California Highway Patrol, an officer was attempting to pull over the driver of a 1997 white Toyota Paseo at Reseda Boulevard and Chatsworth Street in Porter Ranch for speeding and expired registration tags. The driver, now identified as Carretero, fled the scene.
The CHP said Carretero sped southbound on Reseda Boulevard and ran at least two red lights. The officers chasing the motorist opted to break off the pursuit due to the suspect’s erratic driving but continued following from a distance.
Moments later, Carretero lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of Devonshire Street and crashed into two SUVs parked outside a CVS pharmacy, a 2007 Toyota RAV4 and a 2001 Honda CRV.
Fatal Car Crash in Northridge Friday
Carretero was ejected upon the impact and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A woman in her 60s, who was inside the RAV4, was transported to Dignity Health- Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
A 20-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Paseo, sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
