Jose Vasquez Navas ID’d as Man Killed in Palo Alto Crash on U.S. Highway 101 near Embarcadero Road
Palo Alto, California (July 15, 2019) – The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office has identified the man who was killed last month in an early-morning head-on crash in Palo Alto.
Jose Vasquez Navas, 33, died in the wreck that occurred at about 2:08 a.m. Sunday, June 16 on U.S. Highway 101, just north of Embarcadero Road.
Authorities said a Chevrolet driven by Vasquez Navas, was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 101 when the Chevrolet collided head-on with a Mercedes-Benz that was heading northbound.
The Chevrolet then burst into flames with Vasquez Navas still inside.
Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Highway 101 Crash Identified
Vasquez Navas was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office, Vasquez Navas had no permanent city of residence. His death was caused by blunt force injuries from the car accident.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, a 25-year-old San Mateo man, sustained major injuries, including a broken leg, and was taken to Stanford Hospital.
The northbound lanes were shut down for several hours as the California Highway Patrol officers investigated the crash.
It is undermined if drugs or alcohol were considered factors in the crash.
The CHP is investigating the crash.
