Jose Maganabaez Identified as Man Hospitalized after La Grange ATV Accident at La Grange Off-Highway Vehicle Park

La Grange, California (August 3, 2020) – Jose Maganabaez, 21, of Contra Costa County, has been identified as the man who was seriously injured in an ATV accident on Saturday afternoon in La Grange, authorities said.
At about 4:10 p.m., on August 1, the California Highway Patrol responded to the major injury crash at La Grange Off-Highway Vehicle Park.
A 2006 Yamaha Raptor all-terrain vehicle, driven by Maganabaez, collided with a 2011 Honda Pilot, operated by Steven Hamilton, 37, from Tracy, the CHP said.
According to the officials, Hamilton was traveling westbound on one of the two-lane entrance roads to the park when Maganabaez crossed the double yellow lines in the road and headed eastbound in the westbound lane.
Maganabaez reportedly struck the left front of the Pilot and was ejected onto the Pilot’s windshield and to the ground. He was not wearing a helmet at the time.

Maganabaez sustained fractures, lacerations, and abrasions and was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.
Hamilton suffered a laceration to his arm. His 4-year-old passenger in the rear seat was unhurt in the mishap.
Drugs or alcohol were not believed to have played a role in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
