Jorge Vazquez ID’d as 13-Year-Old Boy Killed in Rainbow Crash at Rainbow Valley Boulevard and Old Highway 395
Rainbow, California (July 25, 2019) – Authorities have identified Jorge Vazquez as the 13-year-old boy who was killed Tuesday afternoon in a traffic accident that also injured his mother and his 6-year-old sister at an intersection in Rainbow.
The deadly wreck occurred at about 4:48 p.m. Tuesday, July 23 at the intersection of Rainbow Valley Boulevard and Old Highway 395.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Honda Pilot driven by the mother, was attempting drove eastbound Rainbow Glen Road across Old Highway 395.
After stopping at the red light, the Honda Pilot traveled into the intersection and was hit by a northbound semi-truck carrying two rock towing trailers, which had no stop sign or stoplight. The CHP said the semi was possibly traveling at around 55 mph.
The semi pushed the Honda Pilot into a light pole before it came to a rest.

Vazquez, who was in the front passenger seat of the Honda, died in the crash. His mother, the driver, was transported by ground ambulance to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
A 6-year-old girl, who was in the back right passenger seat was also transported to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. The man driving the truck complained of pain and was transported to Palomar Medical Center.
Old Highway 395 was closed following the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
