Planada, California (April 2, 2021) – John Vanderlinde, 52, of Moreno Valley, has been identified as the male pedestrian who was hit and seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver on Tuesday night at an intersection in Planada, Merced County, authorities said.

At about 10:22 p.m. on March 30, the California Highway Patrol officers responded to the accident at the intersection of Highway 140 and North Cunningham Road.

According to the CHP, Vanderlinde was hit by a vehicle that was traveling eastbound on Highway 140.

First responders arrived at the scene and found Vanderlinde lying on the shoulder of the highway, the officials said.

Vanderlinde was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment. 

The involved driver fled the scene after the accident. The suspect’s vehicle, a white 2015 or newer Ford F250 or F350 pickup truck, possibly with dual rear wheels, may have been involved in the collision. It was last seen traveling eastbound on Highway 140 towards Mariposa.

The accident remains under investigation.
