Palo Alto, California (August 5, 2019) – Authorities have identified the man who was killed early Sunday morning in a traffic accident involving a fire truck and a box truck in Palo Alto as Joeffrey Catahan, 47, of Union City.

The deadly wreck happened at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, August 4 on Highway 101 near Embarcadero Road exit.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the Palo Alto Fire Department were at the scene of an earlier single-vehicle crash when a box truck slammed into one of the fire trucks that were blocking the slow lane.

Catahan, who was the driver of the box truck, died in the accident.

No firefighter was hurt in the crash.

Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash, the CHP said.

The investigation is ongoing.
