Long Beach, California (October 1, 2020) – Joe Delucas, 30, of Los Angeles, has been identified as the victim who was killed in a suspected DUI accident that left several others injured on Tuesday evening in Long Beach, according to the Long Beach police.

The deadly accident happened shortly before 5:00 p.m., on September 29, on the Pacific Coast Highway.

As per the police report, a 2015 Nissan Altima, driven by Mario Medrano, 31, of Norwalk, was traveling southbound on the highway at a high rate of speed when it veered into the pathway of an oncoming 1994 Nissan truck, driven by a 62-year-old resident of Long Beach, that was driving northbound.

Medrano continued driving southbound and collided with a 2010 Toyota Prius that was traveling northbound. As a result of the collision, the Toyota was pushed into the southbound lanes where a southbound 2008 Honda Pilot struck it, the officials said.

Delucas, who was a passenger in the Nissan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other occupants in the Nissan were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two persons in the Toyota and one other party in the Honda were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Medrano was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and murder. He was booked in jail on a $2 million bail.

The crash remains under investigation.
