Joab Perez Among 5 Pedestrians Injured After Car Crashes Into Liquor Store in Hollywood

Hollywood, California (March 21, 2021) – Joab Perez has been identified as the photographer among five pedestrians who were injured when a vehicle crashed into a liquor store Friday afternoon in the Hollywood neighborhood in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The major injury accident was reported at around 3:05 p.m. Friday, March 19, in the 6818 block of West Hollywood Boulevard.

Authorities said a sport-utility vehicle reportedly drifted off the roadway and struck a group of pedestrians on the sidewalk before crashing into the glass storefront of the Highland Market along West Hollywood Boulevard.

Firefighter, along with paramedics, responded to the scene to help the injured parties. Four patients were transported to a nearby trauma center with serious to critical injuries. The fifth patient declined hospitalization.

Hal Eisner, a Fox11 reporter, Perez and other members of the Fox11 crew were in the area to cover the reopening of the El Capitan at 6838 Hollywood Boulevard, which had been closed for about a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The driver of the SUV, who was not injured, was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
