Javier Lopez Killed in Oxnard Bicycle Accident on East Wooley Road
Javier Lopez ID’d as Bicyclist Killed in Oxnard Accident on East Wooley Road near Saviers Road
California (October 10, 2019) – The bicyclist who was struck and killed by a semi-truck late Thursday morning in Oxnard has been identified as Javier Lopez, 45.
The deadly bicycle accident happened at about 11:30 a.m. on East Wooley Road, just west of Saviers Road.
According to police, Lopez was riding his bicycle eastbound on East Wooley Road when he was hit by a 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer.
Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a 55-year-old man, did not stop to render aid to the victim and fled the scene. Authorities were eventually able to catch up to the driver.
The truck driver told police that he was not aware that he had hit Lopez. He cooperated with authorities and was not arrested.
The crash remains under investigation.
