Redding, California (February 15, 2019) – A 20-year-old man was killed while James Parscal, 20, suffered severe injuries after an alleged DUI collision early Friday in Redding, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

The deadly crash occurred a while after 1:00 a.m. Friday, February 14, on 5 Freeway near Lake Boulevard/Highway 299 interchange.

As per the dispatch, a 2013 Honda Civic was heading westbound on 5 Freeway when it read-ended a 2006 BMW driven by a 20-year-old man.  The impact caused the BMW to overturn on its roof. A Peter-built tractor truck then crashed into the sedan.

The BMW driver suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the crash site. His identity is yet to be released.

The Honda female driver identified as 22-year-old Jecenia Hedrick of Anderson, and her male passenger Parscal were hospitalized with severe injuries.

Hedrick was confirmed to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the crash. She was later arrested for DUI and is facing felony charges including manslaughter.

The big rig driver, 56-year-old Timothy McDaniel, of Medford, Oregon, was not hurt in the collision.

An investigation is ongoing.
