El Dorado County, California (June 3, 2019) – Authorities have identified James P. Bockmon, 25, of Sacramento as the motorcyclist who was killed Saturday night in a traffic accident in El Dorado County.

The deadly crash happened shortly after 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 1 on Bass Lake Road, just south of Magnolia Hills Drive.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Bockmon was riding his 1987 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Bass Lake Road at an unsafe speed when he attempted to slow down and lost control of the bike.

The Harley then fell onto its side and slid into the southbound lane, where both Bockmon and his passenger were hit by a southbound Honda Accord driven by Akshay Patel, 51, of El Dorado Hills.

Bockmon and his passenger were ejected from the bike upon the impact. Bockmon was pronounced dead at the scene while the passenger was airlifted to Sutter-Roseville Hospital with major injuries and was later listed in serious condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
