Jackie Erbe Injured in Berkeley Bicycle Accident on Ninth Street

Berkeley, California (March 19, 2021) – Jackie Erbe, a bike activist and member of the Walk Bike Berkeley coordinating committee, was struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle Tuesday afternoon, hours after discussing how to improve traffic safety in Berkeley.
The accident happened just before 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, on Ninth Street near Channing.
Police said Erbe was riding with her younger son on Ninth Street when she was struck from behind by a vehicle.
Erbe sustained major injuries that included a broken femur and fractured vertebrae and was taken to a hospital where she underwent two surgeries at the hospital, authorities said.
The child was not injured.
No further details about the accident were immediately provided.
The crash remains under investigation.
