Ivan Sandoval ID’d as Driver Killed in San Pablo Car Crash on San Pablo Avenue near Richmond Parkway

San Pablo, California (February 22, 2021) – Authorities have identified the driver who died after a police chase ended in a crash Tuesday morning in San Pablo as Ivan Sandoval, 25, of San Pablo.
The chase began at around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, when San Pablo police attempted to pull over a 1993 Dodge Intrepid that had been reported stolen.
The driver of the Dodge, Sandoval, failed to yield, prompting a short chase that was subsequently canceled due to the unsafe reckless driving of the stolen vehicle.
A short time later, the Dodge collided with a 2004 Toyota Matrix that was traveling southbound on San Pablo Avenue.
The impact of the collision split the Dodge into two, spreading debris over the roadway.
Sandoval died at the scene.
The Toyota driver, a 34-year-old Hayward resident, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The San Pablo Police Department and the California Highway Patrol are investigating the cause of the accident.
