Irvine, California (June 11, 2021) – One person was killed Thursday evening in a car crash on a freeway in Irvine, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

At about 5:36 p.m. Thursday, June 10, authorities received a report about the accident in the northbound lane of State Route 133 Freeway between Interstate 5 and Great Park Boulevard.

As per the CHP report, the crash involved at least two vehicles. After the collision, one of the vehicles involved rolled over and ended up on the freeway’s right shoulder.

One person was declared dead at the scene. The name of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

It was not immediately known if anyone else was injured.

The crash prompted the officers to temporarily closed multiple lanes of the freeway. It is undetermined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
