Irais Hernandez-Mateo Seriously Injured in Trinity County Collision on Highway 3 near Rourke Ranch Road

Trinity County, California (May 11, 2021) – Irais Hernandez-Mateo, 26, of Santa Cruz, was seriously injured Monday night after being involved in a deadly head-on collision in Trinity County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash occurred at about midnight on Monday, May 10 on Highway 3, just south of Rourke Ranch Road.
The CHP said a 34-year-old Hayfork man was driving a 2006 Honda southbound on the highway when he allowed the vehicle to drift across the center divider into the northbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming 2017 Toyota driven by Hernandez-Mateo.

The driver of the Honda died in the accident. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Hernandez-Mateo sustained major injuries while his 5-year-old son had minor injuries. Both were airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Redding.
The CHP was yet to establish whether intoxication was a factor in the collision.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
