Fresno, California (May 12, 2021) – An innocent motorist died after a police pursuit ended in a traffic accident Wednesday afternoon in Downtown Fresno, according to authorities.
The incident began at about 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of Calaveras Street and N Street when a California Highway Patrol officer attempted to pull over a wanted gang member for weapons violation charges in the Chinatown area.
Authorities said the suspect initially stopped but then sped off as the officers approached. He then threw a loaded AR-15 out the window near the Fresno County District Attorney’s office.
While fleeing, the suspect’s car, described as a black Ford Fusion, collided with a black BMW sedan.
Deadly Car Accident at Calaveras and N Streets in Fresno
A middle-aged woman, who was in the BMW, died at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
The suspect fled the area, heading northbound. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male and is possibly injured from the accident.
Authorities are still searching for the suspect.
The accident remains under investigation.
