Hercules, CA: Fatal Chain-Reaction Crash on Interstate 80
2 Killed, 2 Injured in Hercules Accident on Interstate 80 near Willow Avenue

Hercules, California (October 24, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a Friday night chain-reaction crash that killed two people and left two others injured in Hercules.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly multi-vehicle accident happened at about 8:20 p.m., on October 23, on Interstate 80, west of Willow Avenue.
The CHP said a Honda Accord with a flat tire stopped in the first lane of westbound Interstate 80 and a Volkswagen Passat came to a stop behind the Honda.
As per the officials’ report, the Volkswagen was then rear-ended by a black Honda Accord. A silver Honda Civic also rear-ended the black Honda Accord.
Following the collision, the involved parties reportedly left their cars to exchange information in the center median. Unfortunately, a blue Toyota Camry swerved left into the center median to avoid the stopped cars, hitting the people gathered there.

A 35-year-old woman from San Leandro was thrown into eastbound lanes of the freeway where she was struck by other cars, and a man landed in the center median. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two persons in the Toyota sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Drugs or alcohol were not suspected of having played a role in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
