Hector Cardenas ID’d as Pedestrian Killed in Riverside Hit-and-Run Accident at Jurupa Avenue and Essex Street
Riverside, California (February 17, 2021) – The Riverside County Coroner’s Office has identified the pedestrian who died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver Monday evening at an intersection in Riverside as Hector Cardenas, 31, of Ontario.
The deadly pedestrian accident was reported at around 7:45 p.m. Monday, February 15, at the intersection of Jurupa Avenue and Essex Street.
Authorities said Cardenas was hit by a silver Subaru Impreza that was traveling westbound on Jurupa Avenue, just west of Florence Street.
Witnesses told the authorities that the pedestrian was lying and standing in the roadway prior to the collision.
Man Hit, Killed by Vehicle in Riverside Monday
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found Cardenas lying down in the roadway unresponsive. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Subaru driver did not stop to render aid to the victim and fled westbound towards Van Buren Boulevard.
Authorities blocked Jurupa Avenue between Essex and Florence streets while they conduct an investigation.
