Hayward, California (October 25, 2019) – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a train on Thursday afternoon in Hayward, according to the authorities.

The incident occurred just after 2:20 p.m. October 24, east of the Hayward station.

Police said Capitol Corridor train No. 537 was traveling from Sacramento to San Jose when it struck a pedestrian on the tracks.

The pedestrian died in the crash. The victim’s name, age and gender were not disclosed.

The 71 passengers who were on board the train and the crew members were not injured in the crash.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Many pedestrians are hurt and several others killed in accidents in California every year. The causes of many of these pedestrian accidents include distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, bad weather, wrong-way driving and failure to observe traffic laws. It is evident that negligence on the part of motorists is the leading cause of these accidents.
