Haolan Chen ID’d as Boy Killed in Milpitas Bicycle Accident at North Park Victoria Drive and Kennedy Drive
Milpitas, California (January 20, 2021) – The boy who died in a hit-and-run bicycle accident Monday afternoon in Milpitas has been identified as Haolan Chen, 7.
The deadly crash happened at about 3:22 p.m., on January 18, at the intersection of North Park Victoria Drive and Kennedy Drive.
According to the police, a white 2015 Lexus R35, driven by Kristalinna Pacheco, 36, of San Jose, was reported stolen along Oakland Road in San Jose on January 2.
On January 18, the stolen vehicle was involved in a robbery at the Shoe Palace near Bascom Avenue and San Carlos Street in San Jose. The car was spotted traveling on East Calaveras Boulevard near N. Park Victoria Drive.
Pacheco reportedly noticed the police, though not pursued. However, she quickly made a right turn at North Park Victoria Drive.
Pacheco allegedly ran a red light at the intersection and struck Chen as he was riding a bicycle across the street in a crosswalk along with his father and sister.
Pacheco did not stop to render aid to the boy and fled the scene, heading northbound.
Chen was taken by emergency responders to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to the officials, Pacheco ditched the car a mile north from the crash site and ran away, but was later arrested by police. She was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of homicide, hit and run causing injury or death, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
A male passenger in the Lexus, a man with blond hair, wearing glasses and a hat, got into the driver’s seat and drove off. Officers reportedly pursued the Lexus onto Interstate 680 and into Fremont, where they lost sight of the vehicle.
