Modesto, California (May 21, 2019) – One of the five people who were injured Sunday afternoon in a traffic collision that also left one person dead near La Grange has been identified as Genesis Wiggins, 2, of Modesto, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash happened just before 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 19 on Highway 132, just east of Hayward Road.

According to the CHP, a Nissan sedan driven by an unidentified woman, was heading eastbound on Highway 132 when for an unknown reason, it veered into the westbound lane and was struck by a westbound 2016 Subaru sedan. The Nissan then veered off the roadway after the impact and caught fire.

Wiggins and three other passengers in the Subaru were taken to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock with minor injuries. The Subaru driver had minor injuries and was also taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

The driver of the Nissan, who has not been identified pending notification of family, was unable to free herself from her burning vehicle and died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
