Gary Hurlbut ID’d as Scooter Rider Killed in Carmichael Crash on Manzanita Avenue near Winding Way

Carmichael, California (June 7, 2020) – The scooter rider who died after being hit by a vehicle early Friday morning in Carmichael, Sacramento County has been identified as Gary Hurlbut, 66, of Carmichael.
The deadly accident occurred at around 12:20 a.m. Friday, June 5 in the 4700 block of Manzanita Avenue near Winding Way.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a GMC pickup truck was heading northbound on Manzanita Avenue when, for unknown reasons, it veered into the opposite lanes and struck Hurlbut who was riding a scooter in a sidewalk.
The GMC continued and slammed into a light pole and then hit a Toyota Camry that was exiting a driveway.

Paramedics responded to the scene and declared Hurlbut dead at the scene.
The driver of the GMC, Adrian Philip Almaraz, 30, of Fair Oaks, was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence causing injury or death and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
The accident remains under investigation.
