Woman Dies in West Fresno Pedestrian Accident on Hughes Avenue near Belmont Avenue

Fresno, California (January 16, 2019) – A woman died in a fatal auto-pedestrian accident involving a hit-and-run driver in west Fresno on Tuesday evening, according to the Fresno police.
The incident was reported at about 5:30 p.m. January 15 on Hughes Avenue, just south of Belmont Avenue.
Police responded to the incident and found a homeless woman lying in the street after apparently being struck by a vehicle.
The victim was rushed to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The driver involved was later located approximately a mile from the crash scene. He reportedly told investigators that he thought he hit a shopping cart and was going to contact the authorities.
Police died not release the identities of the pedestrian and the driver of the vehicle involved.
The crash remains under investigation.
