Hopland, California (June 16, 2020) – The man who died in a traffic accident Monday morning near Hopland has been identified as Francisco J. Tinajero, 32, of Ukiah, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.  

The fatal crash took place at about 11:35 a.m. June 15 on Highway 175 near Harrison Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.  

The CHP said a 1999 Ford F-250 pickup, driven by Justin Jimenez, 20, of Willits, was heading eastbound on Highway 175 when, for unknown reasons, the pickup truck drifted onto the right shoulder and went out of control.  

The pickup truck then crossed over into the westbound lane and crashed into the driver’s side of a 2002 Honda Civic that was heading westbound. 

After the impact, the pickup truck rolled over and landed on its wheels.

The driver of the Honda, Francisco J. Tinajero, was pronounced dead at the scene while his passenger, Ruben Tinajero, 34, of Ukiah, was airlifted to Santa Rosa with major injuries.  

The operator of the pickup truck was also flown to Santa Rosa with major injuries.  

No further details about the crash were immediately available.  

The accident remains under investigation.
