Filiberto Cervantes Killed in Car Accident on Interstate 5 in National City
Filiberto Cervantes ID’d as Man Killed in National City Crash on Interstate 5 near 8th Street
National City, California (November 17, 2020) – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the driver who died following a single-vehicle traffic collision Saturday evening in National City as Filiberto Michael Cervantes, 30, of San Diego.
The deadly accident happened at around 4:51 p.m. Saturday, November 14, on southbound Interstate 5, just north of 8th Street.
Authorities said a black BMW, driven by Cervantes, was traveling southbound Interstate 5 when, for an unknown reason, it veered off the roadway and crashed through the guardrail.
The BMW then went down an embankment and struck a fence. It then caught fire.
Cervantes was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
