Ethen Hazelton Arrested after Long Beach Pedestrian Crash at Magnolia Avenue and Cowles Street

Long Beach, California (October 19, 2019) – Ethen Hazelton, 23, of Long Beach was arrested following a hit-and-run crash that killed a 59-year-old pedestrian on Thursday night in Long Beach, according to police.
The accident was reported at about 8:40 p.m. October 17, at Magnolia Avenue and Cowles Street.
Long Beach police said the 59-year-old Long Beach man was walking across Magnolia Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk when he was hit by a southbound 1998 Honda Civic.
The driver of the Honda fled the scene after the incident.
Paramedics responded to the incident and tried to revive the victim in the middle of the road.
The victim was then rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. His identity was not released pending notification of the next of kin.
Ethen Hazelton Arrested after Long Beach Hit-And-Run Crash
Police tracked down the suspect to the 500 block of Magnolia Avenue, less than a mile south of the scene of the crash. The suspect, identified as Hazelton, was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of hit-and-run .
The incident is under investigation.
Many pedestrians are hurt and several others killed in accidents in California every year. The causes of many of these pedestrian accidents include distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, bad weather, wrong-way driving and failure to observe traffic laws. It is evident that negligence on the part of motorists is the leading cause of these accidents.
