2 Women Sustains Minor Injuries in Escondido Car Accident on West 8th Avenue; Ruben Trejo Cardenas Arrested

Escondido, California (February 8, 2019) – Two women were injured Thursday night in a traffic accident in Escondido, according to police.
The wreck was reported at around 11:15 p.m. Thursday, February 7 in the 400 block of West 8th Avenue.
Police said Ruben Trejo Cardenas, 24, was driving a 1994 Mercedes-Benz sedan on West 8th Avenue when for reasons still under investigation he allegedly crashed into two parked vehicles and a fence in the front yard of an Escondido home.
The Mercedes then came to a rest on a concrete barrier in the front yard of the home near the intersection of East Seventh Avenue and Beacon Place as a result of the collision.
Two women, who were passengers in the Mercedes, sustained minor injuries in the crash. They were taken to a hospital by paramedics.
Cardenas reportedly fled on foot after the crash and officers located him in the detached garage of a home in the 600 block of East Third Avenue. He was arrested at about 11:50 p.m. on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in injury and a parole violation.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
