Escondido, California (February 14, 2021) – Two men were hit and killed by a vehicle on Friday night in Escondido, authorities said.

The deadly pedestrian accident occurred at about 11:20 p.m., on February 12, at Mission Avenue and Ash Street.

A 13-year-old girl who allegedly took her mother’s car attempted to flee from Escondido police. She tried to turn left onto Ash Street, lost control, and the car slid into the planter on the east side of the road near an SDG&E transfer facility.

The vehicle struck two men who appeared to have been homeless and were sleeping in the bushes, the officials said.

2 Men Killed in Pedestrian Crash at Mission Avenue and Ash Street

One was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other died at a hospital.

The 13-year-old girl was detained. She had a juvenile passenger at the time.

More details about the accident were not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
