Ernest Caldwell Jr Fatally Hit by Train near Grant and Railroad Avenues in Novato
Ernest Caldwell Jr ID’d as Elderly Pedestrian Killed in Novato Train Crash near Grant and Railroad Avenues
Novato, California (December 24, 2019) – The elderly man who was on Thursday night struck and killed by a train in Novato has been identified as Ernest Caldwell Jr, 71, of Novato, according to the Marin County Coroner’s Office.
The crash was reported at about 8:31 p.m. Thursday, December 19, between the Hamilton and San Marin stations.
Caldwell Jr was reportedly walking in the area when he was hit by a northbound SMART train. The train stopped between Grant and Railroad avenues as investigators examined the scene.
Ernest Caldwell Jr Killed in Novato Train Collision
Caldwell Jr was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Police are conducting an investigation into the collision.
