El Cajon, California (March 31, 2021) – Three people were hospitalized Tuesday evening following a hit-and-run crash involving a tow truck in El Cajon, according to a local news source.
The accident happened at around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, on Jamacha Road, just south of Main Street.
Authorities said the tow truck hauling two vehicles was heading southbound on Jamacha Road when the driver made a sudden turn and collided with a car that was also traveling southbound.
The truck then crashed into several palm trees outside an apartment complex before coming to rest.
Two adult occupants in the car sustained significant injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Their names and condition were not immediately disclosed.
The driver of the tow truck fled the scene on foot, but later returned to the crash site. The truck’s driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment before being booked into jail on suspicion of hit and run.
Jamacha Road was closed in both directions between Main and Lexington Avenue during the investigation.
