Downey, California (February 23, 2021) – Minor injuries were sustained in a multi-vehicle accident that happened Monday morning on an interstate in Downey, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The incident occurred at about 8:12 a.m. on Interstate 5, just south of Lakewood Boulevard off-ramp.

As per the report, a big rig, a white Toyota Prius, and a third vehicle collided under unclear circumstances.

The driver of the Prius called authorities reporting the accident and added that their car was on the right-hand shoulder and the other vehicles at the Arco Gas Station.

Downey firefighters and CHP officers responded to the scene to help the victims.

An unknown number of parties sustained minor injuries in the accident, the report said. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene to offer medical aid to the victims. The report did not mention if anyone was hospitalized.

The Prius sustained major rear-end damage in the crash.

CHP is investigating to establish the cause of the accident.
