Downey, CA: 1 Seriously Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 5 Freeway
One Hospitalized after Downey Car Accident on Interstate 5 Freeway at Lakewood Boulevard
Downey, California (October 9, 2020) – One person was seriously injured Friday morning in a traffic accident involving four vehicles in Downey, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The multi-vehicle crash happened just before 6:00 a.m. on the southbound 5 Freeway at Lakewood Boulevard.
As per the CHP report, four vehicles, including a pickup truck and a big rig, were involved in the collision. The pickup truck then slammed into a guardrail after the accident.
Major Injury Traffic Crash on 5 Freeway in Downey
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and extricated one person who was trapped in the wrecked pickup truck. The victim was then transported to a local hospital with major injuries.
All southbound lanes of 5 Freeway were closed due to the crash. As of 8:00 a.m., the southbound lanes were reopened.
The accident remains under investigation.
