Raymond Zapien Arrested After Princeton Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 45
Princeton, California (July 3, 2020) – Destiny Sorrels, of Princeton, has been identified as the victim who was injured following an alleged hit-and-run crash in Princeton Sunday, May 31.
The multi-vehicle collision took place on Highway 45.
As per the California Highway Patrol report, a 2014 Buick LaCross operated by 31-year-old Raymond Zapien, north on SR-45, swerved off the highway and hit a stalled ATV for unknown reasons.
The Buick then slammed into a truck operated by Kyle Wills southbound on State Route 45. The initial report showed that Wills was trying to block Zapien’s vehicle with his own to prevent him from escaping the scene.
Zapien fled the crash site on foot, leaving his two passengers behind.
Driver Hospitalized After Princeton Hit-and-Run Collision ID’d as Destiny Sorrels
The ATV driver, Sorrels, was ejected upon the impact. Sorrels sustained unspecified injuries and was flown to Enloe Medical Center in Chico for further medication.
A male child riding in Zapien’s vehicle was hospitalized at Colusa Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
The child’s mother, Skye Flores, also a passenger of the Buick, possibly was not injured in the wreck. Officials said Flores was a girlfriend of Zapien.
Zapien was later found in Yuba City by the Yuba-Sutter County Net 5 Task Force and the Colusa County Task Force on Thursday, Jun 4. He was booked into the Colusa County Jail and charged with attempted murder.
The accident remains under an active investigation.
