Deputy Nicholas O’Loughlin Killed in Chino Car Crash at Euclid and Edison Avenues

Chino, California (February 18, 2019) – The off-duty San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputy who was killed in an alleged DUI traffic crash in Chino early Sunday morning has been identified as Deputy Nicholas O’Loughlin, 28, according to the sheriff’s department.
The accident took place around 12:30 a.m. February 17, at the corner of Euclid and Edison avenues.
As per the police report, Deputy O’Loughlin was traveling southbound on Euclid Avenue when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Yijie Mao, 26, of Alhambra, and which was heading west on Edison Avenue.
O’Loughlin was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Mao was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. He was detained on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while under influence.
The investigators are looking into the accident to ascertain its cause.
