Angels Camp, California (October 24, 2020) – Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputy Keven Stevens, 42, of San Andreas and Micha Paulson, 20, of Copperopolis, have been identified as the two people who were injured early Friday morning in a head-on crash in the Angels Camp area.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened shortly before 2:00 a.m. Friday, October 23, on Highway 4, just west of Stockton Road.

The CHP said a 2001 Nissan Xterra SUV, driven by Paulson, was heading eastbound on Highway 4 when, for an unknown reason, it drifted into the opposite lane on a curve in the roadway and collided with a westbound 2017 Ford Explorer driven by Deputy Stevens.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and extricated Deputy Stevens from the wreckage. He was then transported to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries.

Paulson suffered minor injuries and his passengers, a 16-year-old from Murphys, sustained moderate injuries. Another passenger, Austin Lane, 19, of Angels Camp, was not injured.

Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the accident.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
