Darren Malvin Struck, Killed by Vehicle at Laverne and North Ferndale Avenues in Mill Valley
Darren Malvin ID’d as Pedestrian Killed in Mill Valley Accident on Laverne and North Ferndale Avenues

Mill Valley, California (January 17, 2019) – The pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle while fleeing a falling tree Wednesday night in unincorporated Marin County outside Mill Valley has been identified as Darren Malvin, 52, of Mill Valley, he was the CEO of American Solar Corp., according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
The tragic accident happened at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 16 at the intersection of Laverne and North Ferndale avenues.
Firefighters received a report from Malvin regarding power lines which was knocked onto the road from the rainstorm at the intersection.
As Malvin was waiting for the fire crews to arrive, a car pulled in front of his residence. Malvin was speaking with the driver inside the car through an open window when they heard overhead tree branches breaking falling to the ground.
According to the authorities, Malvin ran for cover from the debris to the front of the car while the driver accelerated to avoid being hit by the falling tree.
Malvin was hit by the car and knocked him to the ground. Responding paramedics rendered aid and transported Malvin to Marin General Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities are investigating the accident.

The law requires drivers to slow down and give the right of way to pedestrians in both marked and unmarked crosswalks.
Investigators will inspect the vehicle involved for mechanical issues or system failure and analyze photographs of the site of the crash. They will also determine if the driver was intoxicated as at the time of the accident.
The final results of the case will determine if a family member may have the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit and receive compensation.
