Cypress Park, California (January 2, 2021) – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle on Friday night in Cypress Park, authorities said.

The deadly pedestrian accident happened at about 11:10 p.m., on January 1, on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway, just south of the Arroyo Seco Parkway (110).

A witness told the California Highway Patrol that a vehicle struck the pedestrian on the freeway in unclear circumstances.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 11:34 p.m., shutting down lanes number 1, 2 and 3 of the northbound Golden State Freeway. The SigAlert was canceled at 3:19 a.m. and all lanes were reopened.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
