Corona, California (May 13, 2019) – A woman from Riverside was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Monday morning in Corona, according to the CHP.

The crash was reported shortly after 2 a.m. on the 91 Freeway just east of Green River Road.

CHP said a 33-year-old Riverside woman pulled to the shoulder of the freeway to assist a friend in another vehicle, and whose dogs were acting up.

As the woman was tending to her friend, a passing vehicle struck her. The driver failed to stop at the scene after the incident.

The victim died of injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver involved reportedly abandoned the vehicle at about 500 feet from the crash site and fled. He driver later contacted the authorities to report the incident and he was located and arrested in his home.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
