Colusa County, California (July 13, 2021) – A man was killed and four other people were hospitalized Sunday night following a head-on crash in Williams, Colusa County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened at around 7:55 p.m. Sunday, July 11, on Highway 20, just east of Highway 16.

A 2014 Toyota Tacoma pickup, driven by a 57-year-old man from Clearlake, Lake County, was speeding westbound on Highway 20 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed over the solid double-yellow lines and entered into the opposite lane.

The Toyota Tacoma reportedly traveled directly into the path of a 2017 Dodge Durango that was heading eastbound.

The Dodge Durango swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid the collision but ended up colliding head-on with the Toyota Tacoma. The impact caused the left front door of the Toyota to detach.

The Clearlake man was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Dodge Durango and his two juvenile passengers were transported airlifted to UC Davis with moderate injuries.  A third passenger in the Dodge Durango sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Kaiser Vacaville Hospital.

Alcohol or drugs were considered a factor in the collision.

Further details about the crash were not immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
