Christina Garcia ID’d as Pedestrian Killed in Silver Lake Hit-and-Run Accident on Hyperion Avenue

Los Angeles, California (January 16, 2019) – The pedestrian who was killed Wednesday morning in an alleged hit-and-run crash in Silver Lake has been identified as Christina Garcia, 57, according to a local news source.
The tragic accident took place at around 6:00 a.m. in the 1800 block of Hyperion Avenue.
A surveillance video showed that Garcia was hit by a sedan while standing on the sidewalk on Hyperion Avenue, police said.
According to the police, the male driver allegedly lost control for an unknown reason and drifted across the northbound lanes, where he crashed into a parking sign and trash cans. He then struck the pedestrian.
The sedan continued traveling eastbound and ended up crashing into two buildings. First responders found Garcia pinned between the building and the vehicle.
Garcia, who was believed to have been on her morning walk and collecting cans at the time, was declared dead at the scene.
The driver reportedly exited the vehicle and checked the damage before going back in and fled the scene. The suspect vehicle was described as a 2010 to 2012 Toyota Corolla and left its driver-side mirror at the scene of the accident.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
Our sincere sympathies go to the family and friends of Garcia. We wish them courage during these trying moments of losing their loved one.
The law requires drivers to slow down and give the right of way to pedestrians in both marked and unmarked crosswalks.
Investigators will inspect the vehicle involved for mechanical issues or system failure and analyze photographs of the site of the crash. They will also determine if the driver was intoxicated as at the time of the accident.
The final results of the case will determine if a family member may have the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit and receive compensation.
