Chico, CA: Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Vehicle on Highway 99
Man Killed in Highway 99 Pedestrian Accident near Hamilton Nord Cana Highway in Chico

Chico, California (January 3, 2019) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday morning north of Chico, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At around 5:50 a.m., the CHP officers received a report regarding a pedestrian hit by a vehicle on Highway 99 near Hamilton Nord Cana Highway.
The CHP said the pedestrian was walking very close to the white line on the west side of Highway 99 when for reasons still under investigation he jumped in front of a white car.
The unidentified man was killed upon the impact. His name has not been released pending identification and notification of his relatives.
The driver of the white car was not injured. His vehicle sustained significant damage to the front windshield.
Alcohol or drugs were not factors in the collision. The crash remains under investigation.

The law requires drivers to slow down and give the right of way to pedestrians in both marked and unmarked crosswalks.
Investigators will inspect the vehicle involved for mechanical issues or system failure and analyze photographs of the site of the crash. They will also determine if the driver was intoxicated as at the time of the accident.
The final results of the case will determine if a family member may have the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit and receive compensation.
