Charlton Caldwell ID’d as Man Killed in Los Angeles Car Accident on 106th Street and Vermont Avenue

Los Angeles, California (July 12, 2020) – Authorities have identified the man who died in a three-vehicle accident Saturday night in the Westmont community of unincorporated Los Angeles County as Charlton Caldwell, 45, of Compton.
At about 9:35 p.m. Saturday, July 11, the California Highway Patrol responded to the fatal crash at the intersection of 106th Street and Vermont Avenue.
The CHP said a white 2007 BMW 328i was traveling eastbound on 106th Street when the driver allegedly ran a red light at Vermont Avenue and went directly into the pathway of another white 2007 BMW that was traveling southbound on Vermont Avenue.
According to the CHP officials, the southbound BMW rear-ended the eastbound BMW. Caldwell, who was driving a 2007 black Saab 20T southbound in the Number one lane on Vermont Avenue, turned his car to the left to avoid the collision.
Caldwell ultimately slammed into the concrete center median on southbound Vermont Avenue and his car drifted off the roadway before hitting a tree.
Fatal 3-Car Accident on 106th Street and Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles
Caldwell was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. A 39-year-old Los Angeles man sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood for treatment.
No further details about the accident were immediately provided.
The crash remains under investigation.
