Fresno, California (April 27, 2020) – 19-year-old Carson Gates, of Fresno, has been identified as the victim who died following an alleged DUI traffic collision that happened in Northeast Fresno Saturday afternoon, the Fresno County Sheriff’s -Coroner’s office reported.

According to the Fresno Police Department, the fatal two-vehicle crash took place at the intersection of Nees and Chestnut Avenues just after 3:00 p.m.

As per the dispatch, a red Volkswagen sedan with two people inside was traveling westbound on Nees Avenue when it was hit by a pickup truck driven by 26-year-old James Mitchell Anderson of Fresno.

Gates, who was a passenger in the Volkswagen, was trapped inside the car following the crash. Emergency crews extricated Gates and rushed him to Saint Agnes Hospital, where he later died.

The Volkswagen operator sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash.

Anderson, who was intoxicated at the time of the collision, was not injured following the mishap.

Anderson was arrested and booked on multiple charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury or death.

The accident remains under investigation.
