San Diego, California (June 29, 2021) – Authorities have identified the driver of a car who was killed after crashing into the rear of a tow truck mid this month in San Diego as Carlos Guadalupe Garza, 27, of San Diego.

The collision occurred at around 8:09 p.m. Saturday, June 19 on southbound Interstate 5, just north of Main Street.

According to the authorities, Garza was driving a Black Honda Accord southbound on Interstate 5 when, for undetermined reasons, he drifted into the west shoulder of the interstate.

Garza then applied his brakes but ended up rear-ending a tow truck that was parked on the west shoulder of the interstate.

Driver Killed in Interstate 5 Crash in San Diego Identified

Garza was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further details about the crash were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
