Butte County, California (December 12, 2020) – A woman was hit and killed by vehicles on Saturday morning in Butte County, authorities said.

The deadly pedestrian accident transpired at about 5:15 a.m. on Highway 70 near Cox Lane, south of Oroville.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by Gary Woods was headed southbound in the number 2 lane when it struck the woman, who was on foot in the southbound number 2 lane of the highway, after coming around a bend.

Woods swerved to avoid the woman but ended up hitting her with the right front edge of his vehicle. The woman was then struck by several other cars, the officials said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Woods was not impaired at the time of the accident.
