1 Killed, Several Hospitalized in Brisbane Bus Crash on Highway 101 Near Sierra Poin
Brisbane, California (May 5, 2019) – One person was killed and several sustained unspecified injuries in a traffic crash that involved multiple vehicles in Brisbane early Saturday morning, according to a local news source.
The multi-vehicle accident, which was reported at around 12:45 a.m. May 4, occurred on Highway 101 near Sierra Point
The accident happened when a tire blew out on a Ford Excursion traveling in the left lane of the highway hence forcing a Toyota Camry behind it to slow down. A Volkswagen then rear-ended the Toyota. Due to the impact of the collision, the Volkswagen forced the Camry into the Ford who then pushed the SUV into the left lane. The SUV was hit by the bus which ultimately rear-ended by a Lincoln Navigator driven by a man in his 50s. The chartered bus, operated by Peninsula Tour, was carrying 18 Oakwood University students from Huntsville, Alabama who are members of the Aeolians Choir and two staff members traveling from the San Francisco International Airport.
As per the CHP report, the two cars and the bus involved became fully engulfed in flames following the crash.
The crashes resulted in the death of the Lincoln motorist. The other three drivers of the involved vehicles sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were rushed to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital for treatment.
Several students seemed to have suffered minor wounds following the wreck. Meanwhile, the identities of all the injured parties and the deceased victims have not yet been released to this time.
The accident remains under an active investigation.
