Boy, Man Seriously Injured in Bicycle Crash on High School Road in Sebastopol

Sebastopol, California (May 14, 2021) – A 12-year-old boy and an approximately 50-year-old man were seriously injured in a Wednesday evening suspected DUI accident in Sebastopol, Sonoma County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The major injury bicycle accident transpired at about 6:00 p.m., on May 12, on High School Road, just south of Gaye Road.

According to the CHP, a Ram Rebel pickup truck, driven by Ulises Valdez of Sebastopol, was driving northbound on High School Road towards the bicyclists. 

Unfortunately, Valdez lost control on a left curve in the roadway and struck the 12-year-old boy riding his bicycle on the shoulder.

The out-of-control pickup truck then swerved back onto the roadway and went onto the right shoulder, where it struck the man in his 50s who was riding his bicycle on the shoulder.

Following the collision, the pickup truck reportedly veered off the road and slammed into a utility pole and a tree.

2 Injured in Bicycle Crash on High School Road

The two bicyclists sustained major injuries in the accident and were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Valdez was also transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment of major injuries before being booked into jail on suspicion of felony DUI.
